A lot of kids, as well as a number of adults, surely enjoy participating in a scavenger hunt party, or in other words, a party that has treasure hunt games as the main activities. There is, after all, something exciting about having to search for treasure, clues, or solve riddles and puzzles in order to get a surprise, or a prize. If you wish to find out how to plan scavenger hunts for kids, better read the following completely and follow them:
A. Think of a theme for the treasure hunting game.
It is always advisable to plan the game and think of a theme for the game. For example, the scavenger hunting activity can focus on a favorite family dish, (recommended for family reunions), and then, the participants in the scavenger hunt party will be required to find the clues to the ingredients of that dish. The treasure hunt games can also focus on the actual party theme e.g. if the birthday celebrant's theme is this: Disney Princesses, then, the kids can search for treasure, to be specific, clues, that deal with the theme: e.g. a glass slipper (Cinderella), an apple (Snow White), and so on.
B. Make the decision on where's the best place to hold the activity.
When planning scavenger hunts for kids, you also have to think about the actual location where the game will be held. If most of the participants of the scavenger hunt party are younger kids, you can make the inside of the house as the location for the hunt. The yard can also be a good location. For older kids, treasure hunt games may be held outdoors, even not within the vicinity of the house e.g. a beach, in the park, etc. During the search for treasure, though, remember to always supervise the kids and never let them out the adults' sight for safety and security purposes.
C. Prepare the materials and tools for the game in advanced.
It is also a must that you have all the needed tools/materials needed for scavenger hunts for kids way in advance. For instance, you should have lists of clues or items to find ready, which you can give to each individual or to each team. Handing a pen or a marker each to participants, or to team leaders of each team is also advisable for a proper scavenger hunt party. The pen/marker will be used to cross out any clue solved or any item found during the game.
Be sure that you won't miss any material or any tool to be used in treasure hunt games and that every participant has a complete set of materials to use.
D. Ensure that you use the right clues.
Kids who search for treasure and find out that your clues are too hard, or that you gave out the wrong clues will surely be disappointed or frustrated. As the one in charge of preparing scavenger hunts for kids, you should see to it that the clues you give or the puzzles to solve are not too hard and will suit the participants' ages or learning levels. It is also of the utmost importance that you're able to give out the right clues, because giving the wrong clues or vague clues will surely ruin the game.
These are some of the most vital tips you should follow when you're preparing a scavenger hunt party. Follow these techniques on creating treasure hunt games if you wish for the games to be a sure success!
